Introducing Alongside!

Same people. Same mission. A name that better fits.

Two adults and a young person smiling together on a snowy porch.

Starting today, Northwest Resource Associates is Alongside.

For decades, the people who have worked closely with us have known us as a partner that takes on tough challenges with heart. We’re proud of the reputation we built and all that we accomplished as Northwest Resource Associates.

But the Northwest Resource Associates name, which echoed our earliest “resource center” grants, didn’t communicate enough about the work we do now.

It was time for a change. Our new name, Alongside, reflects who we are today and how we work: alongside the state and federal agencies that fund critical child welfare programs, the social workers who advocate for young people, the families who step forward, and youth themselves.

What’s changing and what isn’t

This change is an outward sign of a transformation underway for several years. We began as an umbrella for several statewide and regional programs. Today we’re one organization working toward a shared vision: ensuring every young person has family who can nurture their growth and potential.

Our staff and services aren’t changing. We’ll continue to deliver innovative programs and technologies that empower youth, strengthen families, and improve child welfare systems.

But our work in Washington state, which began in 1976 and has been known as Northwest Adoption Exchange, will move forward as part of Alongside’s unified identity. This name change reinforces our commitment to every path to permanency, not just adoption.

Our Oregon Post-Adoption Resource Center and Alaska Center for Resource Families keep their names, with refreshed logos that connect them to Alongside. Thousands of families interact with these programs each year, and many don’t know about the broader expertise behind them. Bringing together our state and regional programs with the rest of our organization makes our work more transparent.

A look at our new logo

Our new logo’s three interlocking rings represent what makes us unique: creative approaches, a focus on young people’s needs in all that we do, and the dedicated, passionate professionals who work here. The organic shapes represent the flexibility this work demands and our belief that lasting family connections take many forms. The logo evokes both energy and collaboration.

Onward

We’re grateful to the staff, board members, partners, families, and young people who helped build our organization over the last 50 years. Thank you!

We’re equally grateful for the opportunity to continue designing and implementing solutions so that every young person has the lasting family connections they need to thrive.
