Tyler Helbach

Deputy Director

Tyler has extensive experience helping children and youth find permanency and has been with Alongside since 2008. His work focuses on designing services around the needs and voices of young people and using technology to build stronger connections among youth, families, and caseworkers.

As deputy director of Alongside, a role he has held since 2025, Tyler helps lead the organization’s programs, operations, and financial strategy. He works to make family recruitment more equitable and services more responsive to the people who use them. His approach is grounded in the belief that permanency isn’t found, it’s built.

Tyler developed Alongside’s nationally recognized In-Depth Profiles® program, which gives young people more say in how they share their stories.

Previously, he served as Alongside’s director of program development and impact, and before that as director of Washington programs for six years.

Tyler is a national advocate for giving young people a stronger voice in child welfare and advancing best practices in permanency planning. He has served on the board of the National Adoption Association and taken part in many work groups focused on improving practices in the field. He holds a master’s degree in public administration from Seattle University.

For Tyler, his work is an opportunity to make a difference at pivotal moments in people’s lives. He is proud to be part of an organization committed to ensuring that young people, families, and prospective parents don’t have to navigate those journeys alone.
